Elapse

Elapse is a collection that evolves from investigating a special Chinese calendar: The Twenty-four Jie Qi. Jie Qi, also known as solar terms, records the flow of time through small details in the environment such as in weather change, plant growth, animal behavior and phenomenon evidence. The calendar separates a year into twenty-four intervals. Through this collection, I wish to bring back the conversation about Jie Qi and invite viewers to be more conscious about the environment around us. The three pieces in Elapse illustrate the transition from winter to spring through the three Jie Qi intervals: Major Cold, Start of Spring, and Rain Water.
